Photoshop Fundamentals: Create a Warm Glow Using Lighting Effects

Begin by downwloading warmglow.tif (shown at right), then launch Photoshop and open the image. Press D to set Default colors (black foreground, white background). Choose Filter > Render > Lighting Effects. In the resulting Lighting Effects dialog box, set Light Type to Omni and Negative to 50. Position the center of the Omni circle over the tip of the flame. Click on the Omni circle handle to enlarge it, and click OK.

Choose Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow. In the resulting Diffuse Glow dialog box, set the Graininess to 0, Glow Amount to 4, and Clear Amount to 20, and click OK.

Select the Lasso tool (L). Use the options in the resulting Options bar. Press Shift and draw circles around the eyes. Choose Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. Use the options in the resulting Brightness/Contrast dialog box and click OK.
