The latest version improves noise reduction performance and increases operating system compatility.
Image noise is present in digital images that have been created by a camera or scanned, and can significantly compromise the level of detail. This is especially the case with images shot in low-light conditions or of high-speed subject matter. A range of software is available to reduce or remove noise, such as Noise Ninja and Neat Image, with the goal being to reduce noise as much as possible without excessively softening the image. Moiré patterns can also often be dramatically reduced via noise reduction, as shown at right.
AKVIS Noise Buster, recently updated to version 7, functions as a plugin for Mac and Windows Photoshop-compatible applications, as well as a standalone application. It reduces both luminance and color noise via automatic filtering, with the ability for users to adjust the settings separately while viewing side-by-side before and after versions of an image. The program also provides batch processing, with version 7 adding improved noise reduction and automatic filtration; compatibility with Snow Leopard, Windows 7 and the 64-bit version of Adobe Photoshop CS4; and a redesigned interface.
Noise Buster can be purchased on the AKVIS site for $49. Trial versions are also available for download.
